The Recruiting Sergeant

Primula Lodge is set in a beutiful village of coltishall Norfolk and is sometimes refered to as the gateway to the broards. The village has four excellent village pubs starting with the nearest pub the Recuiting Sergent, this is on the verge of being one of the finest pubs to dine  in. It has an excellent reputation spreading far using mostly local produce to cook their meals, always a friendly service and plenty of food (Be aware booking may be required during the weekend) follow the link and look at their web pages and see other fantastic places to eat  http://www.recruitingsergeant.co.uk/

The Red Lion

Pub two on the village trail would be the Red Lion recently re-opened with a face lift.

The Red Lion is a traditional Norfolk Real Ale and Wine Freehouse Pub situated in the picturesque village of Coltishall on the Norfolk Broads. The pub dates back to the 17th Century and has recently undergone a major refurbishment. The interior now offers contemporary style décor with many original, period features that have been retained. Customers can choose between several locally brewed real ales or from the selection of fine wines from Adnams whilst enjoying the friendly, warm atmosphere of this village pub. The space allows a somewhat unique combination of seating areas to accommodate drinkers who like to stay at the bar, friends wishing to share a bottle of wine by the fire and a top bar where things can get lively whilst live sport is shown on the television! There is the added benefit of a large beer garden and ample car parking. The Red Lion is managed by Kevin and Sue Gardner who also run the King’s Head gastro pub down the road in the same village. http://www.redlion-coltishall.co.uk/

 The Kings Head

The above brings me nicely to the next watering hole, or old ale house and this is the Kings head beutifully situated on the lower common of the village next to the historic River Bure. The Kings head has won aclaim for its fine dinining and attacts people from afar, they cook their own bread on the premises and Kim and I often go and have a bevage, small loaf butter and hand cooked chips as a light snack. Please follow link for more details on the varied menu http://www.kingsheadcoltishall.co.uk/fine-dining

The Rising Sun

Last but by no means least in prime location and nestling on the banks of the River Bure with a fine patio area is the Rising Sun. Yet again a varied menu and next to the wonderful lower common where one can retreat to and watch the boats go by after refreshment at one of the four fine public houses.

A Piece of Cake was established in July 2010 by 2 local mums Liz Nelson and Julie Longhurst who passionately believed the one thing their village was missing was a tea room serving traditional homemade cakes.

18 High Street Coltishall may have been many things in its time (gentlemen’s costumier, hairdresser, taxi office) but now it is a tea room serving homemade cakes, light lunches and breakfast baps in the heart of a lovely Norfolk village. http://coltishallcakes.com/
